This just in from Royal Caribbean: "To better accommodate the cultural norms in the regions of the world where Royal Caribbean International sails," says the line, as of spring 2012 they're lowering their onboard drinking age from 21 to 18, but only on sailings from South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia/New Zealand.
Until now, cruises in those regions have operated on a waiver policy, whereby guests 18, 19, and 20 years old could consume alcoholic beverages on board if a parent or legal guardian gave written permission.
The minimum drinking age remains 21 aboard all ships sailing from North America.
